Another thesis painting finished. =3=

My initial idea of portraying a monstrous bakeneko was not turning out as well as I hoped, so instead of stressing (and since I'm working with a deadline), I put it aside and did this piece of Okina meeting a nekomata in the forest.

+ Tea stain on illustration board
+ Acrylic, pastel dust, micron pen, and colored pencil
+ Original size :: 9x12 inches
+ Reference for lantern :: [link]

May I please use this as a cover for my one story? The one character is a kitsune who looks a lot like this in the beginning.

Beautiful. :) What kind of media did you use? It looks like you have some kind of texture as well.

Hello! I used different types of mediums, which include acrylic, pastel dust, micron pen, gel pen and colored pencil on illustration board. The background was first tea stained, which is the reason for the texture :)

:) Amazing. I have always wondered how someone can create a mixed media piece and make it look like it belongs together for lack of a better definition. I like your style. ^_^

I couldn't imagine working strictly with one medium! To me it just makes it easier to achieve the look I want using various mediums instead of trying to get it with just one :D

I'm glad it looks "put-together" though! Thanks!

Instead of finding herself face to face with a monster she may have found herself a catty friend.

What do you mean by "pastel dust"? I'm curious what parts of the painting you used it for and how you applied it.

This is a really beautiful, narrative painting! I just love your style. You should definitely do more tea-stains, you really pull off this type of medium well!

Hi!

Pastel dust is basically a powder that is scraped off of a soft pastel stick with an xacto knife and is applied with a dry paint brush. When applied, it is somewhat translucent so it works very well for tinting certain areas of the piece.

I used the dust almost all of the painting where there is blue, most notably the top of the painting, in the trees and leaves, the lantern, and grass :)
